Phil Foden says Man City have a teenager who’s not normal a great player

Manchester City Colwill

Phil Foden has shared his astonishment at fellow Man City teammate Rico Lewis and the ability he has shown in the first team.

The pair recently featured together in City’s 3-2 win over Red Star Belgrade for their final group stage match of the current Champions League tournament.

Now though, the 23-year-old has shared his thoughts on his fellow academy graduate

And what he is so good at on the pitch.

Man city star player Foden prasis Lewis

Speaking in the latest edition of the Official Man City Podcast, Foden had this to say about Lewis.

He said: “How old is he – 19? Yeah, it’s crazy. I think he’s much more alert than I was at that age. Like how aware of his surroundings and how intelligent he is. It’s not normal to find that in a 19-year-old, you know?

“It normally comes over time. He’s so intelligent on the pitch and for the manager to trust him in midfield in these big games, just shows that.”

Since making his senior debut for the Citizens back in August 2022 during the club’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth,

The 19-year-old has gone on to make 37 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side,

Chipping in with one goal and three assists along the way.

Back in August, Lewis put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2028,

Which shows how much the club values him and sees him as a long-term figure for them.

This season has seen the Englishman feature in 14 games for the Manchester club across all competitions,

Starting nine of them against the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa and RB Leipzig,

Playing in a variety of different defensive and midfield positions.

Foden isn’t the first person at City to praise the teenager for his intelligence,

As Guardiola said back in October that Lewis has the mental capability to play in a midfield role.

Taking all of that into account, it’s safe to say that the Manchester club have a top talent in their midst and someone who has definitely flourished under Guardiola in the first team.
