Newcastle United and Arsenal: post match consequences emerge.

Arsenal Team

Newcastle United and Arsenal are amongst the best teams in the premier league. The former hosted the latter last Saturday at St James Park. Arsenal needed a win to strengthen their position for the title quest. Moreover, after being knocked out by West Ham United in the EFL Cup round of 16, the gunners were in low spirits. They needed a win to gain their confidence back.

On the other hand, Newcastle were full of confidence after defeating Manchester United 3-0 at old Trafford. An away win increased their confidence to the highest level. As a result, Newcastle defeated Arsenal 1-0 with the help of Anthony Gordon’s goal. However the match has raised a considerable amount of controversies. These controversies are only increasing day by day. To be more precise, the match has raised concerns over VAR Check as the technology is doing more loss than good to the teams.

What are the controversies that occurred between NewCastle and Arsenal?

Anthony Gordon scored the winner in the 64th minute to get all the three points for the hosts. But this very goal is the major cause of controversy. Firstly, Joe Willock’s ball retrieval at the corner line during the goal build up was clearly out of play as seen in the replay. But VAR didn’t ruled it outside. This led to Willock crossing the ball in the box where Joelinton was waiting for the header. However his header was saved by the keeper after which Gordon scored on rebound. But this is the second cause of controversy. The replay shows that Joelinton pushed Arsenal defender Gabriel which according to many people was a harsh foul. Still, there were no questions raised on this incident.

As per Newcastleworld, the hosts were not the only one to be wronged. In the first half, Kai Havertz made a potentially dangerous challenge on Sean Longstaff that should’ve been a straight red for the German. However, he was somehow not sent off. The only one player to bear the actual consequence is Bruno Guimaraes, who hit Jorginho’s head with his forearm. Although he didn’t received a red card in the match, but he’s been given a 1 match suspension.
