Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, as per the report in Sky Sports.
After making a slow start to the season, the 21-year-old scored eight goals and assisted 11 times in 26 Bundesliga appearances last season. The young winger helped the German side to secure a third-placed finish by winning the last eight consecutive games.
According to the report in Sky Sports, Manchester United have offered £75 million including bonuses for England International which is close to meeting the German Club’s valuation.
The report further claims that the talks are continuing between the two clubs over a possible transfer. And there is still work to be done before reaching an agreement.
Is Sancho a good fit for Manchester United?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been chasing Jadon Sancho since last summer and the Red Devils manager is an admirer of the young winger.
Manchester United lacked a recognized right-winger in the last couple of seasons. Mason Greenwood has been filling that void but he is a centre forward by trade. Moreover, playing in the wing is what Sancho prefers as he is producing good numbers in that department.
Strengthening the right-wing spot with a world-class talent like Sancho will certainly be a bonus for Manchester United’s attacking options.
The Red Devils were productive in front of the goal last season and the stats are clearly reflecting that argument. Solskjaer’s side scored the second-highest goals in the Premier League.
However, the Old Trafford outfit had big problems in defence. Solskjaer’s preferred defensive partnership of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have leaked sloppy goals. And strengthening the backline with world-class talent is an absolute necessity for the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, there is nothing more important than a defensive midfielder to build an organized team. And Manchester United don’t have one. Fred and Scott McTominey are not a recognized centre defensive midfielder. Only Nemanja Matic can play in that role. However, at his age, it is hard for the Serbian to play over 50 games a season.
So, injecting new faces in these two areas should be Manchester United priority rather than Sancho. However, if Solskjaer’s side manage to sign world-class talents in the defence and central defensive midfield area along with Jadon Sancho. Then that would certainly be a successful transfer window for Manchester United to close the gap at the top of the Premier League.
