Another transfer window has opened and yet again Manchester United are linked with loads of players to make their move to Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to bring at least three players in this transfer window and multiple reports are suggesting that the Red Devils boss have asked for a right-winger, a defender and a central defensive midfielder. However, few other reports are stating that the manager has demanded a backup right back and a striker as well.
Nevertheless, we are going to discuss the perfect partner for Harry Maguire among the linked central defenders. Few reports were stating that Manchester United have set their eye on Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane who has only one year remaining in his contract and is reluctant to extend a renewal with the Spanish giants.
The other centre backs are Sergio Ramos and Nikola Milenkovic. Sergio Ramos has recently announced his departure from the Santiago Bernabeu for a new challenge and ESPN were stating in their show ESPN FC that the 35-year-old is open to a move to Old Trafford.
Who will become the perfect partner for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire?
Sergio Ramos:
Sergio Ramos could be a good fit for Solskjaer’s side given his experience and leadership skills. The Spaniard is a big game player and can chip in with some important goals from the set pieces. The defender’s leadership qualities will certainly help the young players to develop.
However, at the age of 35, the defender has lost his pace and it will be a big risk to use the pairing of Harry Maguire and Sergio Ramos given their lack of pace. On the other hand, if Solskjaer uses three at the back then he might become very handy for Manchester United.
Nikola Milenkovic:
Fiorentina defender is linked to moving away from Serie A and Old Trafford is mentioned as his preferred destination. The Serbian is a very good defender and excellent in the air. However, he lacks the necessary pace to complement Maguire.
Solskjaer has tried to play with a high defensive line last season. With this policy, Manchester United have improved going forward but looked fragile defensively without a quick centre-back. And bringing in Milenkovic might not solve the problem next season.
Raphael Varane:
Manchester United’s number one target to solidify their defence is Raphael Varane. The Frenchman is lightning quick and defensively efficient as well. The Real Madrid man could be a perfect partner for Harry Maguire.
Varane’s contract with the record Champions League winners will end in June 2022 and the Frenchman has shown no urgency to sign a contract extension. He is willing to play in the Premier League after winning everything in club football with Real Madrid. Manchester United might get the defender on a cut-price this summer.
Bringing in Varane will be a statement signing from the Red Devils. The partnership of Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane could solve the problem at the back for Manchester United and close the gap at the top of the Premier League.
