Barcelona’s Riqui Puig wants to join Manchester City

About Football Express UK

Barcelona star Riqui Puig said that he wants to join the Premier League champions Manchester City, keeping in mind his future.

The 21-year-old is not able to enjoy the relationship with Ronald Koeman. However, Barcelona have recently extended his contract with them which finishes in 2023.

Riqui Puig has said that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City would be his first choice team if he leaves Barcelona. However, as of now, he is satisfied playing at Camp Nou.

When asked about joining the new club after his contract expires with Barcelona Puig said

“Keeping in mind the style of play and the coach which understands football like me, I will join Manchester City,”

The Spaniard also said that at the moment I am very happy in Barcelona and I have no plans to leave the club at this moment.

Will Manchester City be able to sign Puig this summer?

Barcelona is struggling to dump a lot of players in the upcoming weeks, as the club’s new arrivals- including the Argentine striker Sergio Aguero cannot be registered with the club until the Blaugrana reduce their wage bill.

Puig is a very young, strong and powerful midfielder of the modern time. He has some strengths and weaknesses in his game.

The first strength of Puig is finding spaces. He is known for his short and lean physique which gives him amazing agility and low centre of gravity. The second strength of the Barcelona midfielder is that he has an excellent vision. He reads the game very well and always wants to find the players at an advanced position. The third strength for the Spaniard is breaking the lines. Puig is short, which allows him to see the lines with his crystal clear passes, he creates so much pressure on the team that plays against him. The last and final strength of him is that he makes progressive runs for his club. Apart from passes and vision, Riqui knows how to put himself in goal scoring or goal assisting positions.

The weakness of Puig is that his defensive abilities are not so great compared to his counterparts like Pedri, Ilaix, Pjanic, Alena and others. And his physicality only makes things worse as he won’t be able to go body to body tackles when required and always need to make clinical defensive tackles or interceptions.
