Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool want to sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen in the January transfer window.
That is according to 90min, which has reported whether or not Liverpool think that they could do a deal for the 6ft 5in defender. The Reds are looking forward to the deal.
So, what is being reported about Liverpool and Jonathan Tah? Let’s take a look.
Liverpool want to sign Jonathan Tah in January
Well, according to 90min, Liverpool are on the hunt for a new central defender due to the long-term injury to Joel Matip.
Matip has suffered an ACL rupture and is unlikely to play again this season. So, Liverpool will delve into the January transfer market for a replacement.
90min has claimed that Jonathan Tah is among the defenders who are on the radar of the former Premier League champions.
Tah is on the books of Bayer Leverkusen at the moment. The 27-year-old is under contract at the German club until the summer of 2025
Liverpool “feel a deal could be done” for Tah in January, according t0 90min, which has noted that “there’s an expectation that, were a transfer to be pulled off, the Germany international could seamlessly slot into the side if and when required.”
Chelsea have been linked with Tah. West Ham United were reportedly offered the defender in the summer of 2023.
In my view, Liverpool could struggle to sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen in the January transfer window.
I do not think that Bayer will sell the defender in the middle of the season. After all, Xabi Alonso’s side are aiming to win the Bundesliga.
Bayer are at the top of the Bundesliga table with 35 points from 13 matches. They are three points clear of defending champions and second-placed Bayern Munich, who have played 12 games.
I do not see Bayer selling Tah in January at all. Of course, money talks, but, as I have noted above, Alonso could lead the German club to the Bundesliga title this season.
Tah has scored three goals in 12 Bundesliga matches this season. He scored one goal in 33 Bundesliga games in the last campaign.
