Newcastle United are set to announce a free transfer as the club will sign Loris Karius as a replacement for Martin Dubravka.
The former Liverpool player was touted to be one of the best goalkeepers but immediately lost his spot. Karius made high-profile mistakes with Liverpool that cost Jurgen Klopp’s side the Champions League title to Real Madrid.
The 29-year-old will now make a return to the Premier League and join the Magpies for the rest of the season. The keeper is set to join Newcastle after Dubravka made a move to Manchester United as back-up to David De Gea.
Newcastle United make a new signing
Newcastle United will be delighted to have secured the services of Karius who can add a lot to the side. Moreover, Karius’ profile matches the Magpies squad as the keeper has the experience of playing in the Premier League.
The Magpies were to announce the new signing but have kept it on hold due to the demise of her majesty. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move to Newcastle in an interview with Caught Offside.
He said-
“Loris Karius to Newcastle should be announced in a matter of days, or maybe even hours – it’s done.
“Karius completed his medical and signed the contract. It was really fast as Loris was considered as best option and accepted immediately, so there were no other talks.”
Karius will certainly hope to cement his spot as a regular and immediately hope instill confidence in the Newcastle fans. It remains to be seen when exactly will the club officially announce the signing of the former Liverpool keeper.
However, it is expected that in the coming days, Newcastle will issue a statement that confirms Karius’ move this season. In any case, the signing could prove to be a vital one for Newcastle for the rest of the season.
