Manchester City are looking to further bolster the attack next year with the services of Rafael Leao from AC Milan.
The Cityzens are impressed with the impressive display of the attacker on the pitch and understand Leao can fit well in the squad. Moreover, at such young age, clubs want to sign Leao as he’s turned out to be one of the finest prospects.
However, City will need to rival the likes of Chelsea in order to secure Leao’s signature next year. It is understood that the Blues are also interested to make a swoop for the attacker next summer.
Manchester City to rival Chelsea for AC Milan attacker
Leao relished an impressive 2021-22 season with the Serie A outfit helping the side win the league title. Of the 42 outings across all competitions, the attacker managed to score 14 goals and register 12 assists last season.
Chelsea placed an offer for the Milano forward this summer in the window only to be rejected by the club. With City joining the mix to sign Leao, Chelsea could have a hard time making a swoop next year.
Stefano Pioli, Milan’s boss, was asked if the club would provide a new contract to keep the attacker. He said-
“The club wants to offer Leao a new deal soon. They will take care of it – he’s working at the best level.
He’s not creating any problems, he’s just working hard as a top professional,”
“In order to improve, you need talent and intelligence, so Leao has both of those. We gave him the time and freedom to make mistakes so he could learn,”
It will be interesting to see what City can offer next summer and whether Leao would sign the contract extension.
