Chelsea look to avoid 11-year Champions League streak

Chelsea will look to avoid 11-year Champions League streak as they play RB Salzburg in their second outing in the European top flight.

The Blues return to action following the sacking of manager Thomas Tuchel and the new takeover by Graham Potter. After losing to Dinamo Zagreb in their first UCL match, Chelsea will look to snatch those three points from Salzburg.

Potter has a task in hand in his first match as the manager of Chelsea in the takeover. Moreover, assuming the Blues fail to score this match, it will put an end to an illustrious streak.

Chelsea need to score to avoid ending streak

The former Brighton is aware of the 11-year Champions League streak maintained by Chelsea over the years. Chelsea have not gone without scoring in two successive games, a streak that started since the Carlo Ancelotti era.

It is as simple as the Blues needing to get on the scoresheet to avoid ending the streak. Potter will look to maintain the streak and start off his managerial role at Chelsea to a flying start.

Speaking in a press conference before the clash, Potter said-

Wherever we start it is a heck of an introduction, it is going to be brilliant. So why not start here?”

“If we walk out the road over there, there is a risk,”

“Life is about going outside of your comfort zone, it’s about taking responsibility, it’s about believing that there’s more to us than what sits here now.

I don’t see it [joining Chelsea] as a risk in a negative way. I think everything is a bit unknown and that’s the beauty of life.”

It will be a tricky outing for Potter’s Chelsea but the side will look to get a victory in the second fixture.
