Darwin Nunez confirms his intentions to succeed at Anfield

Darwin Nunez netted a late brace to steal a win against Newcastle. This stellar performance comes in the backdrop of a red card given to Virgil van Dijk in the first half. In the 77th minute, the Uruguayan striker entered the game as a substitution. The atmosphere of the game almost instantly changed. Nunez, who is always an incisive runner, outran Dutch defender Sven Botman as he sought to intercept the ball. Darwin had a lucky deflection on the ball, but his brilliant far post finish displayed his class. Two minutes into the extra time, Nunez made an almost identical sprint to receive a pass from Mohamed Salah. He once again displayed excellent composure as he scored the game-winning goal for the Reds with a first-time shot to the same far post.

Darwin Nunez is ‘happy’ in Liverpool despite contradicting views emerging out from Klopp

Darwin Nunez scored two goals in extra time to help 10-man Liverpool defeat Newcastle 2-1. The Uruguayan striker came off the bench to score an equaliser and a game-winning goal in the 93rd minute, saving his team from defeat. The £64 million player was unhappy with his role as a substitute, Liverpool manager Klopp said after the game.

“I understand the question, it’s clear he’s not happy,” Klopp claimed when asked about Nunez.

However, The Uruguayan striker feels happy to contribute for the team. Thereby, easing Klopp’s worry. Nunez says : “I feel very good. Very happy for the team, for the dedication of my teammates. They fought very well after the red card, which meant we had to play with 10 players.”

The Uruguayan striker adds :“It’s very difficult to keep a game like that, even more losing 1-0. The truth is that we had mental strength and we could control the game. I am very happy and very satisfied. But I would like to congratulate my teammates.”

Nunez only scored 15 goals for the Reds in 42 games during the 2022–2023 season. Although being excellent in other aspects of his game, many criticised his finishing skills in front of goal. However he worked on his weakness and came back stronger. Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, recently stated that he would give the next striker he signs the number nine shirt. In the final week of the summer transfer window, speculation of a move for Darwin Nunez surfaced. However now Liverpool is optimistic about keeping him considering his recent performances.
