This summer, Chelsea moved a number of stars out on loan as manager Mauricio Pochettino tried to cut down his overcrowded first-team roster. Along with a growing number of departures, Romelu Lukaku is anticipated to finalise yet another short-term move away from Stamford Bridge in the upcoming days. The Belgian is going to be the 7th star to move out in a 1 year loan agreement.
Chelsea offloads 7 outcast stars this summer on a loan deal
Seven of those outcast players have been acquired by the Blues for a total of £252.5 million:
Chelsea’s young goalie – Gabriel Slonina ( bought for £12 million)
The 19-year-old custodian, who cost the Blues £12 million last season, has signed a season-long loan with K.A.S. Eupen of the Belgian Pro League. Although he has yet to appear for Chelsea in a match, he did participate in preseason last month.
Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana (bought for £8 million)
Union Berlin of the Bundesliga has accepted the season-long loan agreement with Fofana. The 20-year-old forward made 4 first-team appearances for Blues last season after moving from the Norwegian club Molde to Chelsea in January for a fee of £8 million.
Angelo (bought for £13 million)
Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel, 18, has signed a one-season loan deal with Strasbourg of Ligue 1. He completed his £13 million transfer from Santos to Stamford Bridge this summer, but he was offloaded out right away.
Kepa Arrizabalaga (bought for £72 million)
Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid’s first-choice custodian, tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a training session earlier this month. To fill in for Courtois, Real Madrid has recruited Kepa on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Since Robert Sanchez arrived at Stamford Bridge, Kepa has slipped down the pecking order.
Andrey Santos (bought for £18 million)
Santos has moved out from Chelsea on a season-long loan with Nottingham Forest after a loan stint with Vasco da Gama.
Hakim Ziyech (bought for £32 million)
Ziyech has joined Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray on a season-long loan with a buy-back clause. The Moroccan winger cost £32 million when he was acquired from Ajax in 2020, but he swiftly lost favour at Stamford Bridge. After numerous unsuccessful sales attempts, including a failed trade to Al-Nassr in June, Chelsea appears to be close to permanently offloading the 30-year-old.
Lukaku (bought for £97.5 million)
Romelu Lukaku of Chelsea is close to signing a contract with Roma. According to Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport, Chelsea has begun their countdown to approving the sale of Lukaku. Chelsea will get a fixed loan fee of €5 million from the capital club. There won’t likely be any buy option or obligation included in the loan. Additionally, Roma is currently finalising talks with Lukaku’s agent, who has confirmed his full availability for a salary cut of €7.5 million. The parties are moving through the negotiations very quickly because Roma wants to sign Lukaku by the weekend’s end.
