Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta considers Gabriel Magalhaes as a key player in his squad

After Takehiro Tomiyasu was dismissed from the match against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, Gabriel was substituted in for the remaining 20 minutes of play. When Gabriel took over as captain after club captain Martin Odegaard walked away, it was clear the Gunners had no intention of selling him. This is because he is a key member of Arsenal’s leadership. According to Fabrizio Romano, a transfer expert, Arsenal has no plans to sell Gabriel during the summer transfer window. Despite Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia’s interest, which might lead to a good offer, it has also been highlighted that their attitude on him not being for sale is so firm that an asking price has not even been made. Thus, Arsenal Boss stated:

“He’s played in both games, he’s helped us to win both games for different reasons. He was really good today, he absolutely dominated the box. He’s going to play a lot of games. That’s the decision sometimes.”

When Joao Palhinha equalised from a corner to deny Arsenal victory, home fans certainly felt the Brazilian’s absence. Hence Gabriel’s unavailability was the root cause of Arsenal’s struggle in defence. From set-piece scenarios, the 25-year-old is a great asset for Arsenal. He has a dominant aerial presence and cleared many lethal crosses last season. The former Lille player will undoubtedly have the opportunity to make a quick comeback to the starting lineup.
