Chelsea welcomes Bertrand from Leicester as he trains with the squad

Bertrand took part in training with Chelsea just recently. In the summer of 2021, Leicester City acquired Bertrand as a strategic addition to their team. Intending for him to serve as both backup and competition in the left-back position.

During his time with the Foxes, Bertrand had limited involvement. Making appearances in only 11 matches across various competitions before his release earlier this summer. Unexpectedly, recent information reveals that Bertrand has returned to Chelsea as he evaluates his future choices, marking a surprising turn of events.

Renowned transfer expert Romano has shared on Twitter that Bertrand is presently participating in training sessions with Chelsea’s loan development group. This development signifies Bertrand’s return to the West London club after a span of over eight years. Thus, following his departure for Southampton in 2015.

Bertrand, the former Leicester City player, currently possesses various potential opportunities across England, Europe, and the Middle East. However, at the moment, he is focused on preserving his fitness by training with Chelsea.

Will Chelsea pursue for Bertrand?

Bertrand accumulated a total of 57 appearances for Chelsea throughout his tenure with the club. Over this period, he contributed with two goals and two assists. Notably, he was a starter in the 2021 Champions League final, having progressed through Chelsea’s youth ranks.

Throughout his entire career so far, Bertrand has exclusively competed within England. At the age of 34, this juncture could potentially mark his final opportunity to explore playing abroad, especially considering the interest he has garnered from both European and Middle Eastern regions.

Although Leicester City stands as his most recent affiliation and he celebrated a Champions League victory during his time with Chelsea, Bertrand’s most prominent association is undoubtedly with Southampton. Bertrand notably spent a significant period with Southampton, featuring in a total of 240 matches across various competitions. Throughout this tenure, he contributed eight goals and 10 assists to the team’s efforts.

Bertrand’s tenure with Leicester was marked by challenges, including a dearth of playing time and injury setbacks.
