Liverpool young talent Doherty might get a shot at Newcastle match

Liverpool

Yesterday, Liverpool young talent Trent Kone-Doherty participated in training alongside the Reds’ senior squad. Thus, gearing up for their upcoming weekend excursion to Newcastle.

Having been from Irish club Derry City last summer, Kone-Doherty made his way to Anfield. Since then, the 17-year-old has consistently drawn attention through his performances in the youth teams throughout the previous season. This momentum has carried over into the initial months of this year. Notably, he has showcased his prowess by contributing two goals and an assist, splitting his appearances between the U18s and U21s. Impressive achievements for such a young player.

Similar to fellow prospect Ben Doak, Trent Kone-Doherty exhibits the qualities suggestive of a possible future addition to the first-team roster. This perspective seems to be shared by Jurgen Klopp as well. In fact, journalist Keifer MacDonald affirmed through a recent Twitter post that Kone-Doherty participated in Tuesday’s training session.

Liverpool places high hope in the young Doherty

Since Trent Kone-Doherty’s arrival at Liverpool in the previous summer, he has consistently exuded the aura of a potential rising star. He is famous as a ‘flying machine’ by the chairman of one of his former clubs. His attributes include rapid speed, a direct style of play, and notable skills, as reported by The Athletic.

Arriving simultaneously with Doak and sharing a similar age, there are certainly evident comparisons there. Nevertheless, it would be unjust to place the same expectations on Kone-Doherty to match Doak’s achievements at this early stage.

Nonetheless, this represents a definitive indication that the former Derry teenager has firmly captured Klopp’s attention. Should he maintain his current trajectory within the youth ranks, this won’t be the sole occasion that Kone-Doherty joins the senior squad throughout this season.

Considering the prospect of Europa League football, there could be viable openings for him. If he demonstrates his preparedness to seize them. Alternatively, if he isn’t quite at that level yet, another year of development within the U18s and U21s would undoubtedly be beneficial for his growth.

Liverpool is far behind the race of acquiring new players in the transfer window like Chelsea and Arsenal. Hence, they intend to try out their club products.
