Jurgen Klopp initiated a “series of messages” towards the transfer target Moises Caicedo. However, the latter responded in a candid and straightforward manner, offering his thoughts to the Liverpool manager.
Liverpool made a concerted effort to secure the services of Caicedo from Brighton. But Chelsea ultimately secured the player’s signature with a British-record fee of £115 million. Notably, Liverpool had also put forth a substantial bid of £111 million, which was accepted by Brighton. Thus, reflecting Jurgen Klopp’s strong interest in acquiring the standout midfielder.
Mere hours after Liverpool had reached an agreement with Brighton on the evening of August 10, the German manager initiated contact with the player for the first time.
As reported by The Athletic, he began the conversation by commencing a charm offensive. Thus, using a sequence of messages to express his deep admiration for the Ecuadorian player. In these messages, he unequivocally conveyed his strong desire for the 21-year-old to join his team and play under his leadership.
Why did Caicedo reject Liverpool?
Unfortunately for the Liverpool manager, his efforts didn’t yield the desired outcome. In a significant setback for Klopp, Caicedo’s response came in the form of a text message. Expressing gratitude for Liverpool’s interest. However, he made it clear that he had no intention of moving to Anfield and was solely focusing on joining the team at Stamford Bridge.
