In an interesting turn of events, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has extended his stay with the Blues amid links of exit to Barcelona.
Cesar Azpilicueta was subject of speculation regarding a potential move to Catalan giants Barcelona in the window.
Barcelona were touted to be the favorites to sign the Blues Skipper ahead of the new season. However, the club is unable to register their new signings as cleared by the Spanish League.
Cesar Azpilicueta to continue with Chelsea
Unable to register their new signings, Barcelona asked Azpilicueta to wait for a while before the club makes a move. Barcelona are on the cusp of selling a player which would help them register the new signings.
However, Azpilicueta wanted his future to be clear before the new Premier League season got underway. As a result of which, the captain has now decided to stay with Chelsea and continue until 2024.
Moreover, the Chelsea captain called up Xavi to address that he would be staying with the club and extending the contract. In an interview with the club’s official website, he said-
‘I am really happy to extend my stay at Chelsea, my home. It is almost 10 years since I first arrived and joined the club so I really feel the love and I am really excited for the new project we have in our hands.
‘I would like to say thank you to Mr Todd for giving me the opportunity to keep my journey at this amazing club and I am really looking forward to continuing our adventure. I am a really proud captain and I hope we can share many good memories together.
However, the player is set to make more memories with Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel and fans will be delighted.
