Manchester City youth sensation James McAtee is set to spend whole of the 2022/23 season on loan to Sheffield United.
The academy talent had been under much speculation regarding a possible exit from the Etihad in the transfer window. Moreover, McAtee required regular game time which did not seem too possible under Pep Guardiola for the new season.
However, the Cityzens have officially confirmed on the club’s website that the player will be out on loan this season. The attacking midfielder will hope to relish a great season at United before making a comeback with City next year.
Manchester City midfielder joins Sheffield United
Pep Guardiola has groomed a number of youth players during his stint as a manager across different clubs. At City, Pep is credited to develop players like Phil Foden who has emerged as one of the finest talents.
In fact, it was the Cityzens gaffer who supported McAtee in his move to Sheffield this summer. The City academy youth spoke in an interview regarding the impact Pep has made on his professional life.
He said-
“He was very supportive of it and said try and play as much as you can and learn for next year,”
“Before we went on our pre-season tour the manager talked to me and said there are five midfielders and I think it’s going to be tough to get some minutes.
“The aim is to come back and get in the team. I thought Sheffield United would be the perfect team to get back into the City side and that’s the end goal.”
“He’s one of the best managers in the world, so when he speaks to you and he has a plan for you you do take that on board and listen to him.
McAtee has a long season ahead of him to prove his worth and return to Manchester City next season.
