Chelsea are reportedly doing everything possible to bring AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni to Stamford Bridge. The French stalwart is in high demand since making his name with the Ligue 1 side. Chelsea have now joined a host of clubs interested in signing the talented midfielder. Further on, Spanish outlet MARCA revealed that Chelsea have ‘asked about’ Tchouameni and want ‘a quick decision’ from the player.
Moreover, Chelsea are ready to push their limits to secure the services of the French midfielder. And with new owners coming on board, Thomas Tuchel is expected to get the financial backing in the market. The 22-year-old Tchouameni is already being touted as his fellow countryman N’Golo Kante’s successor by many.
Tchouameni’s playing style and work rate are quite similar to that of a young N’Golo Kante. However, due to injuries, Kante has been far from his best over the last 18 months. As a result, Chelsea are looking to replace their French midfielder with another Frenchman. Tchouameni wants an exit as well since he wishes to endure a new experience. Chelsea reportedly want to waste no time and want a firm decision from the midfielder as soon as possible.
Chelsea is one of the frontrunners to sign the Monaco midfielder
As mentioned earlier, Chelsea are not the only ones pursuing the midfielder. Real Madrid, PSG and Liverpool are in line as well. Real Madrid have even contacted Tchouameni’s representatives. However, AS Monaco want a fee in the range of £60-£70 million which is deemed as too high by the newly crowned Spanish champions. Real are ready to pay around £40 million and have asked Tchouameni to convince his current employers.
But Chelsea on the other hand are willing to put their money where their mouth is. The Blues’ new owners who want to ‘make a statement in the summer are ready to meet Monaco’s demand of £70 million. Tuchel knows Kante can no more put in those robust performances week-in week-out. Tchouameni is the one who can and the manager wants him desperately.
Tchouameni joined Monaco in the winter of 2020, for £16 million from Bordeaux. He has played 48 games in all competitions for Monaco this season, scoring 5 and creating 2. The defensive midfielder’s 33 of those 48 games have come in the Ligue 1, missing out on just 3 games. Tchouameni posts a staggering 2.5 tackles, 2.3 aerial duels won and almost 3 interceptions per game in the league. Like Kante, Tchouameni loves to win the possession back for his team as well. He wins the ball 6 times per game by putting pressure on the opponent.
Tchouameni outclasses the Chelsea midfielder in many metrics, however, it can be understood that Kante has missed a few games due to injuries. But this is the very reason Chelsea are rigorously on the trail of Tchouameni. If they somehow manage to beat the competition and acquire the Monaco midfielder, Chelsea won’t have to scratch their heads to replace Kante.
