Wolverhampton 0-0 Chelsea: Post-match analysis

About Football Express UK

Chelsea drop points yet again after being held by Wolverhampton Wanderers to only a 0-0 draw in a crucial Premier League encounter on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues didn’t want to play the game after seven players tested positive for Coronavirus ahead of the game. But, the Premier League authority stayed firm and did not postpone this game.

The visitors only managed one shot on target throughout the game and failed to break down the stubborn defensive shape of the home side. Following this result, Thomas Tuchel’s side is slowly drifting off from the title challenge as they are currently six points behind the league leader Manchester City with 38 points in 18 games.

On the other hand, the Wolves are in the eighth position with 25 points games. Bruno Lage’s side is displaying a great defensive structure as they have only conceded 14 goals but the concerning part will be that they only scored 13 goals.

Wolverhampton 0-0 Chelsea:

Following this result, Thomas Tuchel’s side has now dropped four points in back-to-back games and have now won only two in the last seven games in all competitions. If the Blues can’t return to winning ways as quickly as possible then Manchester City might run away from them as the Citizens have already won eight league games in a row.

After the game, speaking with the club’s website, Thomas Tuchel said that he is happy with his team’s second-half display and happy with the clean sheet. He said:

“In the end, you try to focus. There was a lot of noise going on in the last 24 hours. It definitely wasn’t the perfect environment to prepare for a match. We did a late meeting, a short meeting, and we tried to do our best.

“We struggled a little bit in the first half, after a very strong start in the first five minutes. We struggled to adapt to Wolves’ shape. We were a bit late in all the challenges. The reaction in the second half was very good. It was a very good performance in the second half. We have another clean sheet so a lot of positive things.

“It’s hard to create chances and score goals here, that was clear before. To analyse this game isolated and purely this performance, I am absolutely okay. We could have won it with a bit of luck, or a bit more quality, a shot more, little situations on our side, but I’m very happy how we played second half.”

The upcoming fixtures for both teams:

Chelsea will face Brentford in their next game on Wednesday night in the league cup. There is a huge possibility that this game might not take place in midweek. So, the Blues’ next game could be against Aston Villa on boxing day. If the league authority decides not to postpone the fixtures.

On the other hand, Wolverhampton will welcome Watford in their next game on boxing day in the Premier League. And it will be interesting to if this game will take place or not.
