Newcastle United have targeted Everton forward Anthony Gordon over a potential move to St James Park. Although Everton are pushing Gordon to sign a new contract with a pay rise to keep Newcastle at bay.
Gordon, 21, is one of the promising talents in the Everton setup. Newcastle United have seen Gordon’s potential and wants the youngster at the club. They believe Gordon could be a great future prospect if given the right development. However, Newcastle are in the talking stage of the transfer saga and a move is not going to be possible until they get their terms right. Newcastle Sporting Director Dan Ashworth is in direct talks with Everton over Gordon.
Lampard is full of praise for Gordon
Frank Lampard spoke highly of Gordon earlier this season having started 11 out of 12 games under Lampard.
“I’ve been really impressed, when asked about how local lad Gordon has risen to the challenge. “He’s becoming more of a man, more of a leader with every game, with every day. His dedication and talent is huge.
His feeling for the club, to bring that across at such a young age is something pretty special. I love working with him, love him as a player. There are things he wants to improve and he can improve and that’s absolutely normal in terms of development. But what he’s doing for us at the minute, he’s an absolutely huge player.”
Newcastle United have a lot of fund at the moment. However, they remain a mid-table club. Newcastle needs to purchase some smart signings and get a manager with a bigger and better vision for the club. The Magpies are unlikely to persuade Gordon to leave the club, however, it remains to be seen if Everton extends Gordon’s contract.
