Transfers: Aston Villa shows interest in Sven Botman with Italian Champions also in the race

About Football Express UK

Aston Villa have shown interest in Lille defender Sven Botman. The defender is a real leader among men and Steven Gerrard wishes for him at Villa Park in the Summer. Botman has a market value of 27m.

Gerrard wants to rebuild the Villa squad in the Summer. He intends to bring in a couple of players and overall bring the team up to a notch. He would be hoping for a finish in the top half of the table.

Gerrard has identified Botman as a player who could help him achieve his wish for Villa.

However, Aston Villa are not the only team on the hunt for Botman. Italian champions AC Milan have shown interest in Botman. In fact, there are rumors that a deal is almost done between both teams. At the moment, it seems difficult for Aston Villa to get Botman as it does not make sense for Botman to choose a team without Champions League football.

Dean Jones gives his view

Dean Jones talked about Botman and AC Milan and Aston Villa’s chances of getting the defender.

“It’ll still be a surprise if he doesn’t go to Milan. They’re Serie A title winners and they’re in the Champions League.

It’s quite a big climb down to then suddenly end up at Aston Villa, but then again, the profile of the club’s still big, you’ve got a manager with big ambition and the sort of money on the table is going to be as good if not better.

So while on the surface level, you think, ‘That is a big climb down’, actually, from the player’s point of view, it might not be. And, at the end of the day, the Premier League is a place that most players with high ambition want to end up.”
