Newcastle United’s potential transfer targets

About Football Express UK

Ever since the takeover, Newcastle United have been busy securing their transfer targets. The Magpies have completed five deals so far and don’t intend on stopping anytime soon.

The signing of Bruno Guimares is a clear sign of intent, which kind of shocked everyone. Complimenting it with the additions of Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Dan Burn and Matt Target, who joins on a loan deal, Newcastle has had a terrific winter window.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe will soon have a headache selecting his squad, with the number of big names rumoured to join them. The former Bournemouth manager recently joined the Magpies and is working on avoiding relegation.

FREE TRANSFER TARGETS TO CONSIDER

The window may have closed but that doesn’t stop teams from registering free agents. Newcastle might look to bring in more signings in a desperate bid to avoid relegation. Newcastle could be looking at a few options to further strengthen their squad.

Diego Costa, an already household name for Premier League fans is on the free agents’ list and the Magpies could go for him. The former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker might not be the same player he once was but could add something to this relegation-threatened Newcastle side.

Mateo Musacchio is another name that comes up. The Magpies are looking forward to improving their defence and the Argentine could provide something with his experience.

Another option could be Wallace at centre-back. The Brazilian has gone slightly under the radar since joining leaving Lazio in 2020. Therefore this could be the perfect opportunity for him to stay motivated and deliver.

SUMMER TRANSFER TARGETS FOR NEWCASTLE

Newcastle has also been looking at some long term targets. The Magpies had expressed their desire to sign Diego Carlos from Sevilla in the winter but the Andalusian side didn’t want their key man to leave in the middle of the season.

Sven Botman from Lille was also touted as an option and the Dutchman could still join here at St. James’ Park come summer.

Man United star Jessie Lingard was also talked about and the deal eventually didn’t happen. However, it does not rule out Newcastle opening talks again in June.

Hugo Ekitike from Reims was another target that Newcastle wanted to sign. However, the 19-year-old French forward decided to stay in Ligue 1 for the time being. He has already scored 8 times and assisted thrice as Borussia Dortmund and PSG also keep tabs on him.

VERDICT ON NEWCASTLE AVOIDING RELEGATION

The pressure is well and truly on for the Magpies. They have greatly strengthened their squad but are still somewhat light up-front, having failed to land a striker. However, that by no means undermines the massive window they have had and it won’t be a surprise if they manage to avoid relegation now.

Newcastle is currently in the relegation zone at 18th. They are 1 point off Norwich City but have a game in hand as compared to the Canaries. There is still a long way to go for them but Newcastle is definitely on the right track.
