Newcastle United ended their unbeaten run at home as they lost 1-0 to Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
Newcastle came out of the traps quite quickly and tried taking the game to Liverpool. But the magpies had no real success. While at the other end Jota had a half-chance to open the scoring. Just minutes later Virgil van Dijk had a chance to score from a header but he failed to capitalize. Naby Keita did score in the 19th minute after brilliant footwork inside the box.
Miguel Almirón did pull the home side level but the goal was ruled out for offside. Newcastle looked threatening at the start of the second half but Liverpool started to dominate possession again very quickly. Allan Saint-Maximin had a chance through on goal but the offside flag was raised yet again.

Martin Dubravka 8
The goalkeeper kept Newcastle United in the game until the very end and made some fantastic saves,
Emil Krafth 6
Krafth covered a lot of ground and defended well against Mane and Robertson. But he lacked quality going forward.
Fabian Schar 5
Tried to fool the ref by going to the ground in hope of a free kick in the build-up to the Liverpool goal. Subbed off in the second half due to injury.
Matt Targett 7
Another decent performance from the on-loan defender made six tackles and a couple of interceptions on the day.
Jonjo Shelvey 6
Playing as the deepest member of the midfield. Shelvey tried to control the tempo of the game but was unsuccessful mostly.
Bruno Guimaraes 6
Coming into the game after a couple of brilliant performances but struggled to have any real impact on proceedings against Liverpool.
Joe Willock 5
Willock recorded just 18 touches and struggled against the Liverpool midfield three.
Allan Saint-Maximin 5
Saint-Maximin started the game as the striker then moved on to the left flank. But he struggled to create any real spark in the final third for his team.
Joelinton 7
The Brazilain started on the left flank and then moved into the centre of midfield. He made a couple of tackles and covered a lot of ground.
Miguel Almiron 6
He did record one goal but it was ruled out for offside. Outside of that, he struggled to make any real impact just like the rest of Newcastle United’s frontline.
