Arsenal has been amazing when it comes to transfers in the past few years, but Vieira seems to be an exception.
However, Mikel stood up for Fabio and urged the fans to be patient with the player. The 22-year-old joined from Porto. He had a fairly good initial phase at the Emirates but failed to continue his good form afterward.
Vieira recently featured in a 3-0 defeat against Brighton for Gunners in the Carabao cup. He had an average game and was subbed off by Jesus, 20 minutes before the final whistle.
Fabio has failed to earn a place in Mikel’s preferred midfield choice.
With Xhaka, Odegaard, and Partey in good sync, it’s looking difficult for him to get a place in the team.
Mikel Arteta on Fabio Vieira
Arsenal’s head coach was asked about Fabio and if fans should be concerned about his poor form.
Arteta said:
“I think in front of goal he’s been unlucky because in the past two games he could have scored a few goals.“
“But every player needs time to adapt obviously. When he played against Brentford away from home and he’s surrounded with players he’s more familiar with it’s a bit easier.“
“We’ve asked him to play lots of different positions as well because of the needs that we have in the squad. “But, I’m not worried at all.”
Arteta on if Vieira has settled in the team:
“Well he missed a big part because he was injured for two and a half months and he missed the whole preseason and didn’t have any preseason. I think that period in the World Cup is going to make him very good.”
Fabio has featured in 7 premier league games so far and assisted for one goal. He is currently in competition with Odegaard and Xhaka for his place on the team.
