Liverpool news: Farewell for Origi, Konate misses out on France call-up

About Football Express UK

Liverpool head into the final day of the Premier League season with the hope of a slip up from Manchester City and lifting the Premier League title. The reds face Real Madrid in the Champions League final after that.

Heading into the last day of the Premier League season, Liverpool still have a chance of completing the quadruple. Jurgen Klopp’s side are just one point off Premier League leaders Manchester City. The Liverpool faithful will be hoping that their former players Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho can spoil Manchester City’s party.

Divock Origi set for a special Liverpool farewell?

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Divock Origi will play his last game for Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday against Wolves. The manager expects the Liverpool faithful to give the Belgium striker a wonderful sendoff. Despite only playing a bit-part role in the squad in recent years. Origi has still established himself as a modern-day Liverpool legend with his ability to score big goals in important matches and moments. AC Milan are leading the race to land the striker on a free in the summer transfer window.

Talking about the Belgium striker in his pre-match interview, Jurgen Klopp said:

“I expect Div to get a special farewell,” “For me, he will always be a Liverpool legend and it has been a joy to work with him.”

“He’s one of the most important players I ever had. Wherever he will go he will be successful, 100 per cent. I remember so many things when I think about Div. Goals, ups and downs. He is a Liverpool legend, no doubt.”

Ibrahima Konate misses out on French national team call-up

Ibrahima Konate joined Liverpool in the summer and he is yet to lose a game when he has started for the reds. The French defender has partnered Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defence and has not looked out of his place at all. He has also shown his ability to score goals with headers, just like his partner Virgil van Dijk.

But despite the success this season, the young defender missed out on a callup. Didier Deschamps called up Presnel Kimpembe, Jules Kounde, Lucas Hernandez, Raphael Varane, and William Saliba ahead of Konate.

Talking about leaving the Liverpool defender out of his side, Didier Deschamps said:

“He’s in a team which is competing in the Champions League final and for the title in England,”

“But since he’s been at Liverpool, he’s mostly played in a four-man defence and there is competition [in the France squad]. I brought William last time and he always plays in a back three. It’s either one or the other.”
