Liverpool exploring options to replace Georginio Wijnaldum

About Football Express UK

The Dutchmen Georginio Wijnaldum recently left Liverpool when his contract expired in the month of June. The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen on adding a midfielder to his squad before the start of a new season.

Wijnaldum joined Liverpool way back in 2016 from Newcastle United, who were relegated from the Premier League back then. Now the German coach is opting for a similar approach which he used 5 years back. Thus, targeting players from the second tier. Now that Wijnaldum has joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, Klopp is in search of a player who can fill the shoes he left behind.

According to Liverpool Echo, one of the targets which the Reds are monitoring currently is Sander Berge. The Sheffield United midfielder is gaining some attention from Arsenal and Napoli as well. However, he is not the only player in the radar of the former Premier League champions, While West Bromwich Albion attacking midfielder Matheus Pereira is also gaining a lot of attention from the Premier League clubs. Thus, West Bromwich new boss Valerien Ismael also believes that it would be difficult to keep a hold on the 25-year-old Brazilian.

Liverpool also interested in Fulham star midfielder

The Cameroonian international Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is also one of the options on Kloop’s list this summer. The 25-year-old midfielder resurrected his career at Craven Cottage. Moreover, he has looked impressive under the leadership of Scott Parker last season. One year back he was also being sent out on loan to the Spanish club Villarreal in 2019-20.

Klopp will be looking forward to strengthening his squad before going into the next season. Moreover, the memories of injury crises suffered last year will be fresh in the mind of the Liverpool boss. It will be interesting to see who could Liverpool bring in to fill the space left behind by Wijnaldum.

The Norwegian footballer and Sheffield United’s midfielder Sander Berge is currently being valued at around £35m. However, speculations suggest that the price tag will be a bit lower for Pereira and Zambo Anguissa.
