Liverpool closing in on Jeremy Doku

About Football Express UK

Liverpool has been given a boost on their pursuit of Belgian winger Jeremy Doku. The 19-year-old had been on their radar for some time and the latest news coming are positive for the Reds.

Doku expressed his desire to improve himself and do everything to play in a top league like the English Premier League during an interview with RTBF. This is good news for Liverpool who wanted to sign Doku four years ago.

The winger is currently playing for French side Stade Rennais. Liverpool is looking to freshen their attack and considers Doku as an ideal long-term prospect.

BELGIAN READY FOR HIS BIG MOVE

Doku in the interview told that he is looking forward to the next step in his career. The winger, who loves dribbling, unsurprisingly has the likes of Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho as his role models.

I want to do everything to become one of the best players in the world, in one of the greatest. clubs around the world, in the English Premier League if possible. And I’m working hard for that “- said Doku about his future ambitions.

This is clearly a good sign for Liverpool who was unsuccessful in their initial pursuit for his signature. Rather than moving to a top side like Liverpool, the Belgian decided to move to Rennais for Anderlecht.

Liverpool clearly needs to add strength in their forward areas. While Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Diogo Jota all are incredible, the club is too much reliant on them. Salah and Mane are both entering their thirties and the probability to see a dropoff in their pace is very high.

The Reds are currently over-reliant on these superstars and do not have a strong bench to fall back to when required. The upcoming AFCON Cup is one of the challenges for the club as the club will be without the service of both Mane and Salah during January. Hence it is vital for Liverpool to add quality and strength to their bench.

IS DOKU A RIGHT FIT FOR LIVERPOOL?

Jeremy Doku made his name in Belgium with Anderlecht. From there he made his move to his current club Stade Rennais. He currently has made 45 appearances for Rennais across all competition. However, he only has 3 goals and 4 assists to show during this time. (all stats taken from Transfermarkt)

But at 19, Doku still has time to improve, especially in increasing his attacking output. Already a passer of the ball, Doku is known for his dribbling skill. Though a right-winger, he can also fit in at the left-wing, making him a good fit for Jurgen Klopp’s system.

Bringing in Doku could be a good move for Liverpool. His versatility, pace, and trickery are something that will make him fit well into the Reds system of play. With more coaching, especially under an elite manager like Klopp, the Belgian can easily increase his attacking returns.
