Giroud leaves Chelsea to join AC Milan

About Football Express UK

Olivier Giroud has left Chelsea and would be reportedly looking for a new challenge in Italy. The 34-year-old striker has completed his move to Serie A giants AC Milan.

Although he got very less chances to feature for the Blues since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival, he was the main man in their 2020-21 Champions League triumph. His four goals against Sevilla in the group stages were one of his best-ever performances.

The fee is around £1 million and he could expect more playing time in the Rossoneri’s. The Milan club are playing in the Champions League after a decade-long gap. Will Olivier Giroud help his new club towards glory?

A dream season at AC Milan awaits clinical goalscorer Giroud

Olivier Giroud moved to Stamford Bridge from arch-rivals Arsenal in 2018. He made 119 appearances for Chelsea scoring 39 goals.

However, after spending almost a decade in London (Arsenal and Chelsea), he has opted for a new challenge – with the last season’s Serie A runners up, AC Milan.

Earlier, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano had reported about the deal and now, the deal is completed.

The Reds from Italy were superb last season finishing at 2nd place behind winners Inter Milan. However, the transfer of Hakan Calhanoglu has been a major concern and still, a void is left at the midfield.

Giroud faced a lot of competition in Chelsea for a place in the starting 11 under Tuchel. Timo Werner and Kai Havertz are being able to link up quite well in the front line.

The Milan club is also rumoured about nearing towards Brahim Diaz deal. Mike Maignan replaces Gigi Donnarumma, who has signed for Paris Saint Germain. However, Chelsea have been silent in this transfer window and have only sights upon a “crazy” Erling Haaland deal!

The Champions League winners host Patrick Vieira-led Crystal Palace in their first match in the Premier League on 14th August. Before that, they have a UEFA Super Cup final match against Europa League winners Villarreal.
