Steven Gerrard hopes to have Leon Bailey back in the squad after a long layoff. Aston Villa will hope to have him for the Newcastle game.

Bailey is very close to making his return and there is a chance he gets picked for the upcoming match against the Magpies. Steven Gerrard will want to keep up his side’s good run of form and the addition of Leon Bailey will boost his attacking ranks in the coming weeks.

Leon Bailey to make comeback under Gerrard

The 24-year-old hasn’t featured for Villa since the start of December when he suffered a muscular injury. The Jamaican last played against Manchester City. He was forced off after thirty minutes in a 1-2 defeat. against the Citizens.

Bailey was signed in the summer for a sum of £25 million and has one goal to his name for far. The goal came against Everton in a 3-0 win for Villa at the start of the season. 

The winger is back in training and is in contention to make the trip to Tyneside this weekend. Although everything depends on him receiving the medical green light. 

His return will be a boost to Steven Gerrard. His site looks a bit thin on the attack after the departures of Anwar El-Ghazi and Trezeguet. Although they have acquired the services of Philippe Coutinho, who’s been magnificent so far, Bailey would boost Villa’s chances.

The Villa boss hopes to help the Jamaican reach his peak physical condition so that he can utilise his talent throughout the season. When asked about his return, Gerrard said:

“Yeah, he did part of a session on Monday. Tuesday he did a full session for the first time, so he’s back in the group and back in full training.”
