About Football Express UK

Euro 2020 had got over and Portugal skipper Cristiano Ronaldo won the golden boot with five goals in four appearances. However, he couldn’t defend the title as the Portuguese were knocked out by World No. 1 Belgium in the Round of 16.

Italy clinched their second European Championship title defeating England 3-2 on penalties after both sides were tied at 1-1 in the regular and extra time. Patrik Schick came second among the top goalscorers with 5 goals in 5 appearances.

Record breaker Ronaldo wins the golden boot in the Euro 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo created history after levelling the previous record set by Ali Daei for most goals scored by an active player for his nation. Ronaldo has now 109 goals in 179 appearances for Portugal.

However, it was not a good season for them as they were defeated 4-2 by Germany in the group stage and then, Belgium knocked them out in the pre-quarters. But, he managed to score in most of his matches, especially the 2-2 draw against World Champions France.

Additionally, he is the top scorer in the European Championship with 14 goals across five editions – from 2004 till now. This year in the top scorer’s list, Ronaldo is tied with Czech Republic striker Schick (5 goals). Others include Karim Benzema, Emil Forsberg, Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane – all of them with four goals.

However, his superb form would be making Juventus fans happy. Although there is a certain amount of uncertainty about his future with the Italian giants.

As he failed to win an international trophy this time around, his rival Lionel Messi has an edge for winning the Ballon d’Or this year. The Argentine skipper won Copa America and also won the golden boot in the tournament. As the International tournaments come to an end, all eyes would now be on club football!
