Chelsea Considering a Move For Milan Skriniar

Chelsea Milan Skriniar

Chelsea is reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. According to the Italian publication Calcio Mercato, Chelsea are considering a move for  Milan Skriniar, who has yet to sign a new contract with Inter. This month, Chelsea may make a surprise transfer for Skriniar, which may endanger Kalidou Koulibaly’s spot in Graham Potter’s squad.

Milan Skriniar has been on Chelsea’s radar for a very long time. Now it’s the perfect situation to obtain his signature. Since he hasn’t signed a new contract with  “The Black and Blues” yet.

Chelsea going in for Milan Skriniar

For defenders, Chelsea is mostly interested in Josko Gvardiol. There can be no doubt about that. However, the Blues would be excused for considering alternative choices as Gvardiol’s asking price rises. Now, Chelsea is looking for a new defender, and Skriniar has been one of the top names on their list for quite some time.

Skriniar will leave Inter Milan on a free transfer at the end of the season. A free agent like that would allow Chelsea to redirect funds that could have gone to Gvardiol to other positions on the field. Since the start of the transfer window in the summer, Chelsea is said to have spent £377 million.

The Slovakian defender, who joined Inter from Sampdoria in 2017 and is regarded as one of the best center-backs in Italian football. He has made 240 appearances for Inter and is currently valued at €60 million on Transfermarkt. He is up for negotiation because his Inter Milan contract expires in the summer. Despite the fact that the 2021 champions are eager for him to sign a new contract. And they have even offered him the captaincy to win his support. Republica reports that the Italians are looking into other options in case nothing is agreed upon.

Koulibaly’s Position in danger

At 31, Koulibaly does not have the same leeway that he would have had if he had joined during Chelsea’s previous surge in interest in 2017. This creates a major issue because he was given a four-year contract upon his arrival, with the option of a fifth year. This potentially takes him up to the age of 36.

After a £35m transfer, he has not been in the shape of a man deserving of those expenses. He has two yellow cards and a red card in nine league games. In this, winning four, lost three, and only maintained three clean sheets.
