Premier League side Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of French defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer from Marseille.
Boubacar Kamara has been a key part of Marseille’s squad over the past couple of seasons. This season yet again the 22-year-old has been a key ingredient in Jorge Sampaoli’s side. Kamara has made a total of 48 appearances across all competitions this term. In this time he has recorded one goal and one assist. (stats via Transfermarkt) Marseille finished second in the French league one table this term. While they also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League. But the French side lost to Holland side Feyenoord.
Steven Gerrard and Aston Villa had a fantastic January transfer window. The club brought in star names in January. Lucas Digne joined the club from Everton and Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona. Philippe Coutinho’s loan deal was made permanent just ahead of the summer.
Now Steven Gerrard is looking to add reinforcement to his side in the summer transfer window. The Villans are also scouting Steven Gerrard’s former teammate Luis Suárez. Finally, the Uruguayan striker is on the verge of leaving Atletico Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.
“Their ambition and determination to succeed matches my own.”: Boubacar Kamara
Boubacar Kamara looked very happy and excited as he signed his Aston Villa contract. Talking about joining the Premier League outfit, the French defensive midfielder said:
“When I met with Steven, Christian (Purslow, the CEO) and Johan (Lange, sporting director) in my home I knew Aston Villa was for me. Their ambition and determination to succeed matches my own. I cannot wait for pre-season to get going.”
Steven Gerrard was also chuffed as the club announced the signing of the 22-year-old. Gerrard said:
“I am delighted that we have been able to attract one of the most promising young talents in European football. Finally, we have a very clear plan to make our team stronger and Bouba is an important part of that.”
Is Aston Villa the perfect club for the defensive midfielder?
Manchester United and Atletico Madrid were also scouting the defensive midfielder. But the midfielder has joined Aston Villa ahead of the European giants. Aston Villa can certainly offer the youngster gametime and plenty of experience in the Premier League. So it seems a very smart move by the young midfielder.
