Aston Villa: How Gerrard could rebuild the club

Steven Gerrard has been the manager of Aston Villa since the second half of last season. Gerrard has managed to instill his vision and playstyle into the team. Moreover, he has inherited a decent squad, he would be hoping for a better finish next season.

Gerrard has managed to change Villa’s fortunes since he came in. Villa has transformed into a decent squad and have managed to cause some upsets during Gerrard’s tenure last season – The Manchester United draw where they came back from behind. Gerrard almost managed to hand Liverpool the title in the final matchday as Villa had a 2-0 lead over Manchester City. However, City managed to score thrice in 5 minutes to win the title thanks to a goal from Rodri and a brace from Gundogan.

Gerrard will be rebuilding the squad in the Summer as he looks to sign players that fit his vision. Currently, Villa are trying to get Luis Suarez and Yves Bissouma. The former had played alongside the manager during his days in Liverpool.

Building a Familial Environment and Bringing Experience

Gerrard will be trying to build a familiar environment hence the transfer of Philippe Coutinho. Coutinho has rejuvenated his career since he has come back. He had a great run of form at the start as he scored twice against United to secure a draw. However, he had a dip in form over the course of the season. Although he has shown glimpses of his past self. Moreover, Gerrard wants Luis Suarez who is out of contract. Suarez does not want to continue at Atletico and he intends to move back to the Premier League. Suarez will be a great signing as he played in the Premier League before moving to La Liga. He has the experience and will be of great help to the Villa squad.
