Aston Villa could ‘pull the plug’ on signing Philippe Coutinho

Aston Villa

According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Premier League side Aston Villa may “pull the plug’ and not sign Philippe Coutinho on a permanent basis from Barcelona in the summer.

Philippe Coutinho joined Aston Villa on loan in the January transfer window from Spanish giants Barcelona. The Premier League side agreed to play a massive chunk of the attacking midfielder’s salary to land him in January. Reports also suggest that the deal includes an option to make the deal permanent in the summer for a fee of £33 million.

The Brazilian magician made a perfect comeback to the Premier League and it looked like he never left. He turned the game on its head against Manchester United and earned his team a 2-2 draw. While the performances have dropped off a bit recently. He has made a total of 14 appearances in the Premier League since making his return. In this time he has recorded four goals and three assists. Reports last month suggested that the Premier League outfit were keen to negotiate with Barcelona and reduce the fee to make the loan deal permanent in the summer. But the situation looks to have changed now. As the attacking midfielder has gone the whole month of April without any goal returns.

Coutinho needs to weigh in with some big performances“: Dean Jones about Aston Villa potentially signing Coutinho on a permanent deal

Talking to GIVEMESPORT about the chances of Aston Villa and Steven Gerrard signing Philippe Coutinho on a permanent basis this summer. Dean Jones said:

“I think in the next four weeks. Coutinho needs to weigh in with some big performances on a personal level that convince Aston Villa that he’s absolutely worth signing.

“If he doesn’t between now and the end of the season, I think they might hesitate and pull the plug.” he added.

Should Aston Villa sign Philippe Coutinho on permanent basis?

There is no doubt on the Brazilain midfielder’s quality and technical ability on the ball. If the attacking midfielder can regain he showed at the start of his Aston Villa career, he certainly would be a no brainer for Steven Gerrard.

While Philippe Coutinho will be hoping that he can stay in the Premier League. He will certainly be hoping to revive his career and review his international career too. If Aston Villa can bring the price tag down. It seems like a very good deal for the Premier League side.
