Transfers: Chelsea target Brighton defender

About Football Express UK

Chelsea are to lose a couple of key players in the Summer, especially in the defense. As Tuchel’s two main center backs are leaving – Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. Moreover, Cesar Azpilicuetta is evaluating his role at the club after being at Stamford Bridge for more than a decade. Even Marcos Alonso have shown hints of an exit.

Interestingly, these players were very crucial to the Tuchel side that won the Champions League. Tuchel desperately wants to rebuild the squad and the sanctions haven’t helped a bit. Tuchel will be hoping to add players to his squad. Currently, Tuchel has targeted Josko Gvardiol and Jules Kounde.

However the center back position is the not the only position that is in scrutiny. Marcos Alonso leaving would leave Chelsea without enough depth as they only have Ben Chilwell in the position. Moreover, Chilwell would be arriving back at the club after a big injury. This would leave Chelsea without a proper backup.

Chelsea targets Cucurella

Considering the awkward position they find themselves in, Chelsea have targeted Brighton defender Cucurella. Cucurella has been a standout player at Brighton this season. In fact, he is Brighton’s player of the season. He has made several exemplary performances throughout the season, his masterclass against Manchester United at home being one of them.

However, Chelsea are not the only team in the run. According to sources, Tottenham and Manchester City are in the race as well.

Cucurella had earlier commented on big teams being dependent on him. He also addressed rumors regarding City and Guardiola.

“The goal [at Brighton] was to develop so the big clubs can take notice. But if the opportunity arises, you have to take advantage of it. There are teams that you can’t say no to.

‘No, sincerely no [Pep Guardiola has not called]. Of course, there are rumours. If people are talking like this about you, it’s a good thing. We’re calm; the most important thing right now is to rest.”
