Transfers: Chelsea are open to allow Kepa to leave

About Football Express UK

Chelsea have reportedly allowed Kepa Arrizabalaga to leave. Kepa arrived at Chelsea as the world’s most expensive goalkeeper. However, he has not managed to live up to his price tag. Kepa had a downfall during his time at Chelsea as he was unable to recreate his form at Athletic Bilbao.

Kepa had personal problems during his time at Chelsea which affected his form. He conceded goals and Chelsea were losing matches. Although Chelsea did give him a lot of opportunities, He was unable to give back the trust thrusted upon him. Moreover, the arrival of Eduard Mendy into the squad complicated Kepa’s position in the squad. Kepa lost his first-team privileges and was only given game time in odd matches and the cup games.

Moreover, Kepa is on a 150K/Week wage. Chelsea does not have any use for a player that starts only in cup games to have such a high wage. The Blues want to reduce their wage bill by allowing Kepa to leave in the Summer.

Chelsea is open to selling Kepa in the Summer for the aforementioned reasons. Juventus had earlier shown interest in signing Kepa in January. However, Juventus did not make a bid for Kepa and a move was not able to finalize.

Tuchel on Kepa situation

Thomas Tuchel had earlier spoken about Kepa’s situation and his future at Chelsea.

“It depends what he wants and it depends what his plans are, but I know that we are very privileged to have Edou (Mendy) and Kepa in our squad. I know for sure that Kepa is not happy about the situation and he deserves to play more and he can be a strong number one.

He arrived as a number one goalkeeper so the situation is not easy. I can tell you that he is a fantastic team player since day one and always was and never let anybody down. So no, we did not have this conversation.

I know the goalkeepers coaches have these conversations at the moment and then we will take our time to speak with him, reflect what’s best, what the possibilities are and I’m, of course as a coach, super happy to have both strong goalkeepers. Let’s see.”
