When asked to name his top five midfielders in the world. The first name Steven Gerrard mentioned was Jude Bellingham. “I love Jude Bellingham, absolutely loving him,” the Liverpool legend said about the young English star.
Bellingham has made a name for himself after moving to the Bundesliga with Dortmund in the summer of 2020. Manchester United pushed hard to sign the midfielder but it looks like he made the right choice by ditching the Premier League giants. The 18-year-old has recorded 10 goals and 17 assists in 87 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga giants. (stats via Transfermarkt)
Jude Bellingham also showed his admiration for Steven Gerrard
Talking about his idol on FA England video, Jude Bellingham said:
“Stevie G, easily to be fair. In fact, no it is not easy, I think him or Rooney definitely close,”
“But I think I would go Gerrard, though. The No.8, similar position to me, so yeah, I would probably go with him,” he added.
Recently talkSPORT hosts Jamie O’Hara also compared Jude Bellingham to Steven Gerrard. He said:
“There is something about Jude Bellingham, I thought he was excellent” He is the closest thing we have had since Steven Gerrard. I say that given the fact Steven Gerrard was unbelievable, but Bellingham is obviously not at that level yet. I feel like Jude Bellingham has got that something about him.”
Is Liverpool keen to sign the 18-year-old in future transfer windows?
Just like with any player leaving the England leagues at a young age, Jude Bellingham has been linked with a switch back to England ever since his move to Germany. Premier League giants Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are all scouting the youngster.
But Liverpool seem to be the side leading the race to sign the youngster in the future transfer windows. The German outfit have put a £100 million price tag on the English midfielder. But Bellingham is unlikely to move next summer with Dortmund star Erling Haaland already confirmed to be joining Manchester City.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has also been high on praise for his English national teammate. He said:
“Jude is a fantastic player,” “Even at such a young age, he shows fantastic maturity on and off the field. You can see how hungry he is to be a top player and has all the attributes to do that.”
