Real Madrid is interested in Former Arsenal Player David Luiz

About Football Express UK

Real Madrid is said to be interested in signing David Luiz on a free. The 34-year-old centre back’s contract with Arsenal had ended on the 30th of June this year. The veteran Brazilian could be en route to the Spanish giants after the sale of Raphael Varane to Manchester United.

Currently injured with a hamstring injury and set to return to full fitness before the next season starts. Last season he played 20 games in the league scoring once. He made 5.22 progressive carries per 90 which placed him in the top 91% of defenders in that stat. Known for his skill with lobbed balls and through balls. The centre back can create goal-scoring chances from deep. Currently valued at £3.60m by Transfermarkt, David still could have gas in the tank for one last run.

With a career spanning over 14 years, David Luiz has been one of the players to watch in the 2000s. Playing for clubs like Benfica, PSG, Chelsea and Arsenal, he has won there is all to win in the sport. Best known for his freekicks and lobbed through balls past the defensive lines. He was last sold to Arsenal from Chelsea for a fee of £7.83m. In Arsenal, he won the FA CUP in the 2019/20 season as well as the community shield in the 20/21 season.

How will Real Madrid benefit from Signing David Luiz?

Real Madrid has 4 centre-backs and currently, David Alba is injured. With Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane having left the club, the only central defender from the UCL winning squad is Nacho Fernandez. Who for the majority of his career has been down with injuries. The signing of David Luiz by Real Madrid as a backup would make a lot more sense. This is so as they are trying to keep their expenses as low as possible after having a tough time financially. Even though he is 34, the experience he can offer to the younger defenders is immense.

With Real Madrid open to selling the likes of Modric and Bale, the club is trying to make minimal signings. This transfer feels out of place, but getting a player with so much experience for a fee is a bargain. David Luiz is one of the defenders who even if history tried won’t be forgotten. If Real Madrid sticks to make smart signing on the lines similar to these, they could be a force to be reckoned with in the UEFA Champions League next season.
