Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is set to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer next year. The club has been in contact with his agents for some time. Since nothing has advanced since, Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus are all monitoring the situation.
According to ESPN, Manchester United have accepted that Paul Pogba will leave them on a free next summer. Paul Pogba will not be available against Spurs and Manchester City after being sent off in the Liverpool match.
Will Paul Pogba reach his best level again?
It can arguably be said that Pogba was at his best when he was with Juventus. Paul Pogba joined Juventus from Manchester United in 2012.
He wondered whether he would play regularly because of the presence of a quality midfield trio. Arturo Vidal, Claudio Marchisio and Andrea Pirlo were regular players who featured for Antonio Conte.
With Claudio Marchisio getting injured, Pogba got his first chance. He is a naturally talented player who adapted quickly to Conte’s play style and took advantage of his first chance. Paul Pogba is not only great in his offensive abilities but his workrate is also great. He contributes to the defence of his team.
At Juventus, Pogba was a key part of the backline contributing to the defence as well. His dribbling and usage of his body strength are still some of the best in the world. In 2014-15, he had 13 goals and 10 assists. Despite receiving criticism, at Manchester United he had 16 goals and 11 assists.
With the lack of another quality midfielder to support him, he has not provided consistent performances. This happened because of poor management and injuries.
The problem lies with the lack of another quality defensive midfielder. When Paul Pogba plays for France, he has N’golo Kante with him. He is also a workhorse, often being able to handle the entire midfield. This gives him a free role.
At United, he does not have N’golo Kante but has Fred. The quality differs a lot and hence his role changes. With the presence of a midfielder like Kante, Pogba can provide consistent performances for his club.
