Manchester United interested in a swap deal for Lautaro Martinez

About Football Express UK

According to The Express, Manchester United are interested in a swap deal involving French striker Anthony Martial and Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez in the summer transfer window.

Anthony Martial has been out of form and out of favour yet again this season. He made a total of just eight appearances in the Premier League in the first half of the season. During this time he recorded just one goal. While the short loan deal to the Spanish side Sevilla was set to help revive his career. But things have not gone quite as planned.

He has made a total of 11 appearances for Sevilla in the second half of the season. But he has recorded one goal and one assist in this time. (stats via Transfermarkt) The French forward also picked up an injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the season in a recent league game against Barcelona.

While Lautaro Martinez on the other hand has enjoyed yet another excellent season in front of the goal this term. The Argentinian striker has recorded 21 goals and three assists in 45 appearances across all competitions this term. (stats via Transfermarkt) Inter Milan are currently 2nd in the Serie A table. Martinez is helping his side chase down their second successive league title.

Is Lautaro Martinez a good striker option for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United?

There is no doubt that Manchester United and Erik ten Hag have a massive rebuild on their hands ahead of the summer transfer window. Edinson Cavani is set to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer. While Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is still up in the air. There is no confirmation that the Portuguese star will star at the club beyond the summer.

The likes of Juan Mata and Nemanja Matić played their last game at Old Trafford in the recent 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday. Jesse Lingard is another star that looks set to leave on a free in the summer. While Mason Greenwood’s situation remains unchanged.

Erik ten Hag would certainly be on the hunt for a new strike to lead the rebuild and head the strike force for the next couple of seasons. Lautaro Martinez’s goal tally in Italy makes a case for itself. But the striker has not featured in a one striker system in recent seasons. This may be a concern for Manchester United. But with the sticker still just 24, there will be hopes that he can develop into one of the best number nine’s in the world.
