Manchester City has been one of the best teams in European football since 2012. Despite failing to win the Champions League, they have made their formidable name. Last season they won the PL and reached the CL finals where they lost to Chelsea.
One of the most impressive feats about the Cityzens is that they have immense squad depth. They have world-class backup players as well on the bench.
It is difficult to predict who will play because of Pep’s squad rotation. But it is factual that their out of form winger Sterling has played the most under Pep.
Pep’s options for wingers at Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola often uses him as a number 9 but his playstyle is different. Jesus is not a poacher rather he creates chances using his technical ability.
He has even told City Magazine “I feel comfortable out wide and can help my teammates and my team. I can make runs in behind, control the ball, make passes, make crosses, help in defending. As I say, I feel comfortable there.”
Mahrez is one of few players in the league who have a world-class first touch. He needs only one touch to bring the ball down properly whereas other players need more.
Mahrez is also able to receive the ball in tight areas but his main ability is dribbling.
For someone skinny, Mahrez is surely strong on the ball. His dribbling is amazing because of his composure and speed. He can turn and twist effectively without much difficulty
The Manchester City academy sure did a number on developing Foden. The England international has blossomed into one of the best youngsters in football. He is very versatile, often plays as a midfielder, a number 9 and as a winger.
Pep Guardiola often uses him upfront because he knows how good he is in attacking. Foden like Mahrez has an excellent first touch. He is flashy and has excellent technical ability. Foden likes to take on players and create chances. His most impressive performance came against Liverpool when he scored a banger against them.
Pep Guardiola has a lot of options but if a number 9(poacher) comes then things will change.
