About Football Express UK

Euro 2020 quarterfinals ended in style and we have analyzed the team of the week who were simply impressive in their prescribed roles. England thrashed Ukraine 4-0 whereas Italy came on top against World No. 1 Belgium by a margin of 2-1.

Denmark continued their dream run in Euros with a narrow 2-1 win over Czech Republic. Whereas Spain showed France about winning against Switzerland on penalties! The semi-finals are set as Spain face Italy and then England faces giant-killers Denmark.

Defenders and Goalkeeper included in the EURO 2020 Team of the week

Yann Sommer was brilliant in the match against Spain although Switzerland lost against them in penalties. However, he had been one of their key players in their superb run of form that also included a surprising win against World Champions France. Additionally, he has the most saves in the competition (21) and has conceded just 9 goals in 5 matches.

Leonardo Spinazzola has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament but he was deadly with his speed and agility. He was the main inspiration behind the fast possession-based offensive style of play of the Italians and would certainly be missed in the semis. Also, he is tied with Loic Nego of Hungary in terms of maximum speed by a player (33.8 km/h)!

Harry Maguire is the other centre-back on the list as he also bagged a well-deserved goal for England. He is also having decent defensive performance in the European Championship with 10 ball recoveries and 2 tackles won out of three in three matches played.

Cesar Azpilicueta was the best performer in the right-back position and was playing a bit more defensive manner. His experience has been crucial for La Roja and the Chelsea skipper would be looking for a big win against Italians in the semis.

Midfielders : Goalscorers and assist specialists

Thomas Delaney has been one of the standout performers for Denmark. He made his presence felt with a crucial lead against Czech Republic. He is also playing a major role defensively with 21 ball recoveries, five tackles won out of nine and nine clearances attempted across five matches.

Sergio Busquets had been the main engine of the Spanish team. Under their new skipper, Spain have improved considerably and is playing patient and well-organized football. He has been an excellent leader so far and has also helped the team defensively too.

Nicolo Barella had been one of the promising talents for Italy alongside Manuel Locatelli. He finally got his much-needed goal against Belgium and has been playing a big role for Mancini’s young Italy.

Forwards that lit Euro 2020 this week

Petr Schick got his fifth goal of the tournament against Denmark. He is now the joint-top goalscorer alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Unfortunately, his team are out of the competition but he offers Bayer Leverkusen a lot of hope for their upcoming season!

Harry Kane has finally got his red-hot form back similar to his form playing for Tottenham Hotspur this season. Will he finally bring football back home and will he once again win the golden boot?

Kasper Dolberg has created an instant impact for Denmark alongside deadly players like Yussuf Poulsen and Martin Braithwaite. Will they repeat the 1992 triumph once again?
