Danny Murphy jokes Chelsea could now sign PL teenager for £100m

Chelsea

Pundit Danny Murphy has now joked that Chelsea could be about to make their next £100m signing in the coming year.

He claimed on Match of the Day 2 that the Blues could be tempted to bring in Carlos Baleba after his impressive start to life over at Brighton.

Chelsea have not been shy in signing players and staff from the Seagulls over the last year or so.

This summer just gone they smashed their transfer record in order to sign Moises Caicedo. The midfielder is now beginning to look like the player they spent all that money on.

This signing followed the addition of Robert Sanchez in the same transfer window. While he was out of favour under Roberto de Zerbi, some of their fans will certainly be looking in envy after some of their own goalkeeping showings this season.

Chelsea is still not done

Yesterday saw the Seagulls pick up a point at home to Liverpool in the form of a 2-2 draw.

While their manager oversaw plenty of rotation, some players certainly took the headlines for very impressive displays.

One of those was Baleba, who is looking to fill the void in the middle of the park that Caicedo’s departure has left.

Murphy was very impressed with his display, joking that it is the type of one that would encourage the big-spending Blues to spend again.

He said: “They keep finding these gems. Baleba, 19 year old, first home start today. What a performance. He’ll probably be at Chelsea in a year, £100 million!”

While the 19-year-old looked very impressive in his first start at home, there are still a lot of steps to be taken before he is mentioned in the same breath as Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues have struggled to find a consistent goal scorer in recent seasons,

Despite new owner Todd Boehly spending almost £1 billion on new signings since taking charge of the club.

Chelsea New signing Nicolas Jackson has impressed with his work rate so far,

But has only netted once in the Premier League after seven matches.
