The Portuguese living legend Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the first player ever to feature in the five Euro finals tournament and also broke the record by scoring a brace to become the European Championship’s all-time leading scorer.

Portugal kicks off their Euro 2020 campaign with a 3-0 victory over Hungary. This sets them at the top of Group F. Fernando Santos’s side had to wait for 84 minutes to break the deadlock. Raphael Guerreiro deflected short put Portugal in lead followed by a brace by their captain Ronaldo.

All the 3 goals came in quick succession for Portugal giving them all the three points which they desperately needed in their opening game. This was a must-win game for Portugal as they are part of the group of death.

Ronaldo register yet another record to his name

The Juventus star broke the record of top goal scorer in the European Championship competition. Ronaldo has now registered 11 goals to his name in the Euros leaving behind the Frenchmen Michel Platini on nine. This made Ronaldo all the leading scorer in European Championships.

Apart from this, Ronaldo has now also become the oldest player to score for Portugal at a major tournament. At 36 years, 130 days, Ronaldo breaks the record set by his teammate Pepe at World Cup 2018 (35 years, 124 days). In addition to that, the Portuguese captain also became the oldest player to score at least two goals in a European Championship match.

However, there is yet another record that Ronaldo could break in during this tournament. The one that everybody has their eyes on is the all-time leading scorer in the FIFA international men’s matches. Ronaldo now has 106 goals in 176 games for Portugal, just three short of the record holder Iran’s Ali Daei.

Portugal will be facing Germany in their next match. It will be one of the most important games for both teams as it could decide their fate in the tournament.
