Argentina came on top with a 1-0 win against Paraguay in the Copa America 2021. Papu Gomez scored the winning goal as Albiceleste are now Group A leaders.
However, it was a little bit frustrating for Lionel Messi to be unable to have a goal to his name. Despite they were able to keep Albirroja top goalscorer Angel Romero at bay, the Argentines were surely lacking the cutting edge.

Argentina fielded a 4-2-3-1 formation and made 7 changes in the starting lineup. However, Sergio Aguero got the nod for a place in the starting 11.
Whereas, La Albirroja were also fielding a 4-2-3-1 formation. However, they made three changes to the lineup following their 3-1 win against Bolivia.
Argentina 1-0 Paraguay : Analysis
Argentina had been a much better team in this edition of Copa America in the first few minutes. Sergio Aguero missed a golden chance in the 7th minute to put his side ahead but the shot was well over the goal post.
Despite four shots on target out of total 8 shots, Argentina were lacking clinical finishing. Additionally, Paraguay were the ones who had the maximum ball possession (around 57%) but Emiliano Martinez and the other Argentine defenders were doing a great job for them.
Papu Gomez broke the deadlock in the 10th minute after some beautiful skills from Lionel Messi and Angel di Maria. Gomez missed an opportunity five minutes ago but made no mistake then.
Di Maria excellently spotted the run of Gomez, who was unmarked by the opponent defenders. It was a brilliant performance from the Paris Saint Germain star offensively and defensively.
Aguero was struggling in the match. As a result, Joaquin Correa replaced him in the 59th minute.
Notable Performances
Angel di Maria (8/10) – A great performance and was enough to sway away the danger from the opponent attackers. Also, his patience and timing behind the Gomez goal was really enjoyable.
Cristian Romero (7/10) – Another key player who was also putting up a great all-round performance. His performance had been crucial for their form this season since the match against Chile.
Angel Romero (6/10) – After a superb display against Bolivia, much was expected from him. Unfortunately, his side ended up losing.
