Chelsea despairs in their pursuit of Jules Kounde.
Various reports claim that a deal to sign the 23-year-old defender is ’99 percent done.
Chelsea’s pursuit for Kounde has been on for some time now. They were close to signing him last summer but could not as they did not meet Sevilla’s demand. Chelsea has agreed to a £55million deal to sign Kounde from Sevilla and personal terms have also been agreed.
However, Kounde’s preference has always been Barcelona over Chelsea. The Catalan club have been sending ripples in the transfer market this summer by making some big-money signings. Still, they are eager to sign Kounde and it now appears that they are close to doing that.
Spanish reporter Gerard Romero today morning gave an update on the Kounde transfer saga.
Moreover, he even claimed that La Blaugrana was close to signing the defender from Sevilla.
Romero tweeted,
”This morning Barca and Sevilla have reached an AGREEMENT in principle for Jules Kounde. The deal is 99 per cent closed, unless there is a cataclysm in the next few hours, the Sevilla center-back will be a Barca player.”
What did Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel have to say about Kounde’s arrival to Stamford Bridge?’
Tuchel said in a press conference on Friday,
”There is no news. If there will be news about Jules Kounde I will tell you.”
When pressed on Kounde’s stance on joining Chelsea over Barca, he said:
“That’s what you say but I will not start commenting on other players.”
Tuchel wishes to sign a ‘minimum of one more defender’.
Chelsea had to deal with the departures of two of their seasoned defenders-Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. The Blues has already signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for £34m.
Moreover, club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is also bound to leave for Barcelona this summer.
