Chelsea suffer big blow in Lukaku pursuit

About Football Express UK

Chelsea won’t be able to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan. The 28-year-old forward has no intentions to leave his current club for a reunion with his former club.

Additionally, the Belgian international is an “untouchable” player in the Nerazzurri squad, who will be led by new head coach Filippo Inzaghi. As a result, his huge admirers Chelsea and defending Premier League champions Manchester City would have to search for an alternative.

Earlier, the Italian club saw the departures of Achraf Hakimi and coach Antonio Conte. Thus, there were speculations about his future at the club amidst offers from top clubs across the world. He still has two more years left in his contract.

Lukaku determined to stay at Inter amidst Chelsea interest

Inter Milan ended their season on a high by finishing as the Serie A champions ahead of local rivals, AC Milan. Romelu Lukaku had a superb season scoring 24 goals and bagging 11 assists in his 36 appearances. However, the club needed money and as a result, many big-earners at the club were on the departure list.

Conte wasn’t pleased by this approach by the club and as a result, he resigned from the club. Thus, Filippo Inzaghi was sworn in as the new head coach. Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel were one of his admirers and as a result, rumours were in the air about Lukaku making a possible reunion.

One month ago, he turned down the speculations about him leaving the club. Lukaku told VTM as follows,

“Yes, I am staying. I’ve already had contact with the man who will become our new manager.”

According to Corriere dello Sport, he is stubborn about staying at II Biscione and would not push for a transfer to the Premier League. This could mean the Blues must focus now on signing Erling Haaland or Robert Lewandowski.

Whereas, Pep Guardiola’s side should be able to sign either Harry Kane or Jack Grealish or both!
