Chelsea shows interests in Josko Gvardiol

About Football Express UK

Chelsea have shown interests in Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. Chelsea are hoping to expand their arsenal of players in the Summer with key players leaving.

Many key players are to leave Chelsea in the Summer most notably – Antonio Rudiger. Rudiger has been Tuchel’s first choice center back this season. However, Rudiger has chosen Real Madrid as his next venture and will move away from Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Tuchel is in desperate need of reinforcements in the Summer. Tuchel has set sights on Josko Gvardiol as one of his main targets for the Summer. Gvardiol plays for Leipzig at right back and has been in very good form. Gvardiol has found the back of the net twice and has assisted twice as well in 29 appearances in the Bundesliga.

Josko Gvardiol arrived from Dinamo Zagreb last year and has quickly made himself the first choice right back in the club. He has made 44 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig and has been crucial for the German club.

What it means for Reece James

However, Tuchel’s interests in Gvardiol raises several questions. Tuchel already has a young and proven right back in the form of Reece James. James has been outstanding for Chelsea this season. Even though, his season was muddled with injuries, James always turned up in the games he played. James played in two positions for Chelsea this season, Right back and Center back.

Signing Gvardiol could mean two things for James. One, Gvardiol is brought in to give competition for James so as to up his play, Even though James has been one of the best players for Chelsea.

Two, To switch him into the center back role. The second option is likely as James is a very important player for Chelsea and Tuchel would not sacrifice him.
