Chelsea makes a demand of £ 7 million for this star defender from Barcelona

Chelsea

Chelsea is said to have asked for £7m from Barcelona for their club captain Cesar Azpilicueta. The 32-year-old has spent almost a decade at the West London club. He still has a year left on his contract.

Therefore, he has repeatedly been linked with a move away from the club from the end of the previous season.

Barcelona looks a favorite to sign the star defender. The club and the player have already agreed upon personal terms.

However, still there are complications remaining before this deal can be completed.

Barcelona has already completed the signing of Azpilicueta’s compatriot Andreas Christensen.

This deal was long on hold as Barcelona has been in grave financial trouble. Therefore, even after signing the player, they could not register the player officially because of their financial condition.

It remains to be seen now whether the Catalan club would agree to such a transfer fee for the 32-year-old.

Azpilicueta has also voiced his desire to don the Blaugrana colors in the upcoming season.

The Standard reports that Chelsea has asked Barcelona to pay £7m to acquire the defender.

The West London club is looking to collect the £7m fees they shelled out to sign Azpilicueta. The right-back came from Marseille in 2012.

However, reports suggest that they are flexible with the fee and are open to negotiations.

Thomas Tuchel wants Azpilicueta to stay at Chelsea

Tuchel has reportedly expressed a wish to keep the club captain.

However, with Nathan Ake close to returning to Stamford Bridge, Azpilicueta may be offloaded this summer.

Moving to Camp Nou would fetch the right-back £11m per season barring the taxes. This would be a considerable rise in payment.

The veteran defender has featured in over 474 games for Chelsea. During that period he scored 17 goals.

Moreover, he was instrumental in the team winning a Champions League, two Premier Leagues, and two Europa Leagues.
