Aston Villa reach total agreement with Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho

Aston Villa

According to reliable football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Premier League side Aston Villa have reached full agreement with Barcelona for Brazilain attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho. The journalist also added that an announcement for the deal is expected very soon.

Philippe Coutinho initially joined the Premier League side on loan from Barcelona in the January transfer window. Aston Villa agreed to pay a big chunk of the Brazilian midfielder’s salary. The initial loan deal also included a clause to make the deal permanent for €40 million in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilain midfielder has made a total of 16 appearances in the Premier League since joining the club in January. In this time he has recorded four goals and three assists. (stats via Transfermarkt)

Reports last month suggested that the Premier League side were keen to negotiate a lower price tag with the Spanish giants. While reports last week suggested that the club were in negotiation with Barcelona. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the deal is set to be worth €20 million.

Barcelona is set to take a £124.8 million loss on Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona signed Philippe Coutinho when he was on top of his game with Liverpool. The Spanish giants signed Philippe Coutinho back in the January transfer window of 2018. The Blaugrana side paid a reported fee close to £142 million for the Brazilain attacking midfielder.

But things didn’t go to plan at all as he failed to make any real impression in a Barcelona shit. His most memorable moment in the last few seasons came in the 8-2 win over Barcelona in the Champions League when he was on loan at Bayern Munich. The Spanish side is set to take a £124.8 million loss on the Philippe Coutinho deal. The deal joins Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembélé as big-money moves that have not gone to plan at all.

Can the Brazilain midfielder revive his career at Aston Villa?

Philippe Coutinho had a brilliant start to life back in the Premier League. He announced himself with a goal and an assist against Manchester United. But the goals and assists have dried up in recent weeks. Steven Gerrard will be hoping that he can help revive his former teammate’s career. While the manager will be also hoping that Coutinho can find his feet again in the Premier league and help him reach his goals.
